What Interactive Atlas Holds Copyright In
The family's original written entries, articles, code, visual design and compiled collections belong to Interactive Atlas and its licensors, the same statement the Intellectual Property section of the Terms makes. That covers the encyclopedia itself: the entries, the articles and the arrangement of the collection that Interactive Atlas writes and compiles. This does not transfer ownership of material published by a community, institution, contributor or other rights holder, and it does not cover a source an entry cites: the cited work remains the property of whoever holds it. An atlas glyph made available through the shop is licensed for use on a shop order under the terms described there, not a transfer of the glyph's own copyright.

Anyone can send a report, signed in or not. Where a concern is instead about a source an entry cites rather than the atlas's own prose, say so; the material at issue may belong to the cited source rather than to us.

What Happens After a Report
A person reviews the report. Material may be restricted or removed. The decision is recorded.
Rights reports are not resolved automatically. We may temporarily restrict material while reviewing a credible concern. We then remove it, correct it, restore it, or leave it published based on the available rights information, and the decision, its reasoning and the date are kept.
This is a different process from the accuracy dispute described in the Corrections and Content Disputes section of the Terms and in the FAQ: a rights report is about who owns something, and an accuracy dispute is about whether a statement is correct. The same material can, in principle, be both accurate and infringing, or inaccurate and not infringing at all, so the two reports are handled separately.

Identify the protected work, the exact Interactive Atlas URL, the material at issue, your contact information, the basis for your authority, and the action requested. Include a good-faith statement that the use is not authorized and that the information supplied is accurate. Do not send confidential evidence until requested.
A report about a source an entry cites, rather than about the atlas's own prose, should say so and name the cited source directly; we may need to review or remove the citation itself rather than the entry's own text.
